8 Tips for a Stress Free Newborn Photo Session

Welcoming your newborn into the world is a joyous occasion, and capturing those precious moments in a studio setting can offer a cozy and controlled environment. To ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience during your newborn's portrait session at Kelly Miranda Photography’s studio in Durango, CO, consider these practical tips:

1. Schedule During Baby's Happy Time

For Durango Photography Studio newborn sessions, consider scheduling when your baby is typically at their happiest and most sleepy. This usually tends to be in the morning for most newborns so I often suggest 10 am but we will also discuss your schedule, drive time, siblings’ schedules, and what works best for your family.

2. Pack the Essentials

Bring a pacifier if possible. Even if we only use it for the photo session, it can be a huge help! Bring the essentials for your baby, including extra diapers, wipes, and a change of clothes. Your baby may go through more diaper changes than usual as they tend to eat a little more during their Durango newborn photo session.

3. Plan for Breaks

Even in a controlled studio environment, newborns may need extra feeding or comforting breaks. Plan for these pauses, allowing both you and your baby to relax and recharge.

4. Discuss Props and Setups with Your Photographer

Communicate with me about the props and setups you'd like to include in the session. Our studio has a variety of backdrops and props, and discussing your preferences ensures a seamless and enjoyable experience.

5. Kelly Will Create a Calming Atmosphere

Our studio has a soft music playlist going, space heaters to keep baby warm, a small kitchen, a cozy couch area, and all the comforts needed to soothe your baby. Wear some soft clothing and cozy up on our sofa with a cup of tea while Kelly gets to work creating newborn photography magic in her Durango, CO portrait studio!

7. Prepare for the Studio's Warm Temperature

I keep the studio nice and toasty since your baby will be undressed for some of the time and this helps your baby feel comfortable and calm. Be prepared with some layers you can take off if you get warm.

8. Relax and Trust Your Photographer

Lastly, relax and trust your photographer's expertise. Indoor studio sessions offer a controlled space where professionals can capture the essence of your newborn with precision. Allow yourself to enjoy the experience while your photographer works their magic.

By following these tips, you'll contribute to a stress-free and delightful indoor studio photoshoot experience with Kelly Miranda Photography for your Durango newborn photos, creating timeless portraits that encapsulate the love and joy of welcoming your newborn into your family.
