About Kelly Miranda Photography

My name is Kelly Miranda MacNiven and I am the photographer and owner of Kelly Miranda Photography, a family, maternity, and newborn photography studio in Durango, Colorado. I grew up in the mountains of Durango, CO. In 2008, I moved to Austin, TX with my husband to play in a band. We had a blast touring locally and recording a couple of albums. In 2010 I decided to go back to college to study photography. I opened up my portrait business and in 2012, I graduated with a degree in photography with a focus in portraiture from Austin Community College of Photographic Technology. I participated in a challenging program learning lighting, posing, editing, retouching, print making, and photography studio management. I moved back to Durango after graduation in 2012, with my husband and 8 week old baby boy.

After my son was born, I began to shift my photography toward families and babies. I realized how important it is to have images of your family story because life moves so quickly! Babies are only babies for so long. Weddings go by in the blink of an eye. Families grow up and move apart from each other. I want to be able to capture these moments in a way that preserves the most important details for people to remember forever. I want to create beautiful art with my couples and families that they will proudly enjoy on the wall in their home every day. Printed art work and albums are so important to me technology changes, digital files are only a temporary means of storage, and most importantly, because beautiful portraits deserve to be displayed and enjoyed every single day!

I began photographing families in Durango in 2013 and am so grateful to be doing what I love in such a beautiful place. I’m a mountain girl at heart and getting to live in Durango and raise my son here is something I don’t take for granted. As a family of 3, we enjoy mountain biking, camping, hiking, skiing, and both my son and husband race BMX while I love to be their biggest cheer leader. When I’m not hard at work as Durango’s best photographer, you’ll probably find me out on the trails somewhere!
